You Are The Limit Of God In Your Life
Mar 10, 2022Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”
Now, this is not a verse that expresses God’s unending ability as much as it is God's Word teaching us His limitations. And what is it that He is limited by? Now unto him who is able… so, God is able, but what is He able to do? He's able to do exceedingly, abundantly above… what? Above all that we ASK or THINK. There's our limitation.
He is able but it is us who set the limitations to what He does in our lives. Now that’s a powerful, powerful place to be! This is a powerful position that God has placed you within His Kingdom. You have the ability to bring God's plan, God's best to this planet by asking and thinking. Wow! Do you see it?
Let’s dig into this thinking piece. The Greek word “think” is not just limited to a thought. It is actually the complete work of your mind. The Greek word here comes from nous, which is mind. It is the full activity of your mind. It is reasoning, it is imagination.
Proverbs 23:7 is very clear when it says as a man thinks so is he. So if we're wondering whether or not our thoughts can truly limit God or unleash God, here is the verse that shows it. As a man thinks, so is he.
People will tell me, well, this is what I think about this situation, this is what I think about my life, this is what I think about what I'm able to do. And my statement to them is always the same. And you're right. I believe this, this, and this…and you're right. Because as you think so are you.
God is limited or God is able to express His power through what we ask and what we think and imagine.
Bishop David Oyedepo expressed this well in his book Towards Mental Exploits when he wrote, “Your worth in life is essentially a product of the use of your mind. The state of your life is determined by the state of your mind. Your thoughts hold the key to your life. A happy and productive life is the result of correct thinking. I want you to understand that it is impossible to think one thing and produce another.” I'm going to say that again. We've got to get that part.
“I want you to understand that it is impossible to think one thing and produce another.”
Genesis 1:26 says, “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image.” So God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and we were made in His image. We have three distinctive parts, but yet we are one. We have a spirit, we have a soul, and we have a body, right?
With your spirit you touch the spirit realm. Those who love God must believe that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). The scriptures also tell us that those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).
Jesus said to Nicodemus that a man must be born again (John 3:3). That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the spirit is spirit.
The word “soul” consists of three aspects: your mind, your will, and your emotions. That's what makes up your soul. That is where thoughts and imaginations come through. So if God wants to do exceedingly abundantly above what I'm thinking, I've got to understand what the Scripture teaches me around the area of the mind, the soul. Are you with me?
Genesis 2:7 KJV says, “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
1 Corinthians 15:45 in the amplified version tells us that the first man, Adam, became a living soul. The last man, Adam, became a life giving spirit.
So let’s go back to Genesis. God formed Adam out of the dust of the ground. And then what did He do specifically? He breathed into his nostrils and at that moment, man became a living soul.
Your soul consists of the breath of God.
Your soul contains the breath of God! It was not just Adam that he breathed into. Job 33:4 says the Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty has given me life. Your soul, your mind, your will, your emotions contain the very breath of God. Let that sink in. Your soul contains the breath of God. Try and grasp that for a moment; just how powerful your soul is, how powerful your mind is.
